The NY Schools Data Analysis Technical Assistance Group was founded in 2000 by a group of educational data experts from across New York State.

This group first met on the porch of the Otesaga Hotel in Cooperstown, NY and envisioned a world where NYS schools were able to develop a strong data driven environment guided by the understanding of assessments and sharing of best practices.

It was from these informal meetings that DATAG was born.

Fifth Annual DATAG Excellence in Education Award
The Dr. Gerald E. DeMauro Award

The Fifth Annual DATAG Excellence in Education Award, the Dr. Gerald E. DeMauro Award, recognizes an individual who has made a significant contribution to the educational performance of students by promoting data driven policies.

The nominee must demonstrate outstanding leadership in promoting the policies of an organization that affects the educational performance of students.  The nominee can have any role within the organization.

Last year DATAG honored one teacher and one administrator.  The same procedure will be followed for this year’s award.

Nominations must be submitted by May 19, 2013 by e-mail to emoore@esboces.org

DATAG's Mission
  • To provide a leadership role in identifying, cataloging, and modeling best practices in the analysis and use of data for New York schools.
  • To assist schools in understanding performance assessments in order to effect changes in curriculum and instruction to meet New York educational standards.
  • To support the use of data to inform and improve curriculum, instruction, and assessment, as well as guide professional development and district comprehensive or strategic planning.

DATAG’s primary means of fulfilling its mission is through one summer conference and three membership meetings each school year.

The summer conference and meetings offer presentations by practitioners, researchers, and NYS Education Department representatives.

In addition to data analysis, presentations often focus on the responsibilities of data administrators, effective facilitation of data groups, and balanced approaches to the use of data in schools.

DATAG offers members and NYS data users a prime opportunity for networking and a place for important collegial conversations about the intelligent, responsible, and ethical uses of data for the benefit of students and school systems.

We hope that you can join us.
